In my life I go where the energy draws me. Money is a necessary ingredient to grease the wheels of progress. Painting is the thread that draws me on. Weaving the patterns of my life, keeping me in the moment with all of everything. The key is being present with the presence. We are swimming in a sea of molecules, specks of light, whatever you want to call it.

Writing about painting

Writing some words to try to describe this life of mARTha Painting.
Why write words?
They keep wanting to be there.
Seeking the heart of some kind of truth for myself.
Allowing this sense of a "bigger picture" to chart my course.
In each moment it is given to me what to do.
I embrace all that is free and true, let go of all else.
What does that mean?
It means painting what needs to be painted. To reach the way of that.
That point where the paint flows onto the canvas from realms of mystery.
As the person holding the brush, my report is true.
I have no words to describe where I go for that.
When playing my bamboo flute I can find find myself in a cave in the high mountains.
When really painting I am beyond a place.
Still I am standing here with my brush in one hand, paint rag in the other, watching that painting unfold.
Words get in the way.

The second pouring

Want to write about tea. The second pouring. John1 told me about how the first pouring of water into the tea was only for the rinsing of the cup.
The second pouring is sweeter. I have found even with regular grocerystore green tea this is true. Strange how I never figured that out before.

My heart is happy. Digging out from under in this spring/winter changing time. My paintings are circling. The Studio is becoming real again. Only got a few pictures one day of the dogwoods before their blossoms froze. Thinking of last year at this time. I was visiting New Orleans for the first time after Katrina. Still find it difficult to speak of much.

New start.
Been painting trees, keeping up with the news. Learning about MySpace. Somehow my Gemini nature needs several venues .The New School Of Complete Reality & The Paintings have taken over at mARThaMySpace.

That's a good thing.Thinking over here to write more about the process so I don't forget what I'm doing. I've just been able in the past few weeks to be able to take my own photographs. John1 loaned me an older model digital camera which uses a floppy disk. I'm having fun. Taking shots of my paintings as they go along. It's so helpful to have a version of the painting I'm workingon on my desktop so it can be seen in it's small form. Also running it through some effects or as a slide show is a handy way to save hours of recovery from some glazing experiment gone awry.

At this time it behooves us to pay close attention to what comes next. All is in flux. Stand up for what you believe. Each must look into our own heart of logic and reason. Spirit and mystery go hand in hand. Mastery of the mystery means letting go of all that is not our own choice. Actively seeking sublime elegance.
Our self is no different from those others sheltering from the storm.
What is to be done? I am so sick of hearing the numbers of DEAD.
Why do we keep shooting off our own foot?

I want to say something about the culture being alive tonight. Words fail, no more thoughts. I am a painter usually that's what I can do. Somehow the image that comes to me after all the TERROR OF TODAY'S NEWS.
Several years ago{ Sept.1996} my first visit to New Orleans. Even though it was late we went down to the riverwalk to see the river. I remember this little family settling their children for the night on a parkbench. Somehow I knew then that I would sleep on a bench by the river myself before I would leave that city. And I did . And I'm glad. the other day I found a letter I had written at that time about New Orleans being the training ground for the future. little did I know.

When they started bombing Baghdad; I couldn't paint. I had this collage I'd been playing around with forever, made of Camel cigarette packs. I was living in a shack in the woods. I'd switched to Bugler. So there I sat with my feet on a camel saddle in the debris of my life, my scissors and lighter tied to my easel, cutting out little pieces of paper and sticking them on a board, listening to the BBC. Praying for PEACE. I STILL AM. Only now I listen to Coast to Coast late night talk radio, I am back to PAINting now and praticing being PEACE in each moment in spite of it all.
